OVERVIEW

 

The PCA Provost is Vice President of Academic Affairs, serves as the Chief Academic Officer, and reports directly to the President of the College. The Provost provides primary administrative leadership, direction, and evaluation for all academic activities and faculty affairs, and promotes innovation and excellence in programming, scholarship, and community service.

 

The Provost oversees PCA’s undergraduate and graduate degree programs, PCA’s study abroad programs in English, PCA’s Certificate programs, and intensive Summer programs, as well as Academic Assessment and Accreditation, the Office of the Registrar, and the Office of Student Life. The Provost also provides academic oversight of the French language immersion programs offered through the Center for University Programs Abroad (CUPA).

 

The Provost is responsible for fostering intellectual growth, student learning, and scholarly and creative activities by providing academic strategic planning, administrative leadership, direction, and evaluation of all academic activities and faculty affairs at PCA. The Provost provides leadership in diversity initiatives for faculty, staff, and students and implement the strategic academic vision, allocation of academic space, and the financial implications of program development and growth with the Vice President of Finance and Administration. Alongside the President, the Provost works closely with the Vice President of Enrollment Management and the Director of Student Success in addressing the educational support needs and extra-curricular priorities for students, enrollment strategies, and with the other academic staff as needed.

 

The successful candidate will bring an inclusive and facilitative leadership style that inspires and empowers the campus community, encourages open communication and collaboration across the College, and fosters innovation, while sustaining the differentiating features that make PCA unique, such as:

·           Offering US-accredited degrees, taught in English, in Paris;

·           Welcoming an international student and faculty body;

·           Covering a range of disciplines within the arts and design, affording opportunities for collaboration;

·           Maintaining small average class size, and many opportunities for close student/faculty interaction.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

GENERAL

·           Ensures academic excellence and the success of existing programs and propose avenues for future academic expansion;

·           Acts as the main liaison with, and representative of, the PCA President and actively participates in campus life, including critiques and exhibitions;

·           Provides leadership on Diversity & Inclusion initiatives at the faculty, staff, and student levels.

 

ACADEMIC

·           Oversees all degree-granting and certificate programs;

·       Regularly reviews the curriculum to ensure that it enables students to meet the determined learning outcomes, proposes changes as necessary and assists department chairs with recruiting relevant and qualified faculty as necessary;

·           Chairs all academic committees (Academic Midterm and Term Committees, College Council);

·           Oversees summer, study abroad, and continuing education programs;

·           Provides guidance for summer programs;

·           Provides guidance on CUPA Faculty hires;

·           Manages existing and develop new study abroad partnerships;

·           Develops continuing education and community programs;

·           Implement academic policies and procedures;

·           Oversee accreditation with the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).

 

MANAGEMENT

·           Manages department chairs and maintain close relationships with academic staff;

·           Organizes Faculty and Chairs meetings;

·           Manages the Registrar and Student Life offices.

 

ADMINISTRATION

·           Manages all academic budgets;

·           Prepares reports and surveys for accreditors (e.g., NASAD, NECHE), other regulatory bodies (e.g., Ministère de la Culture, Rectorat de Paris) and the Board of Trustees (e.g. Annual Reports);

·           Prepares and oversees College Council each semester;

·           Prepares and attends general faculty meetings each semester;

·           Collaborates with Admissions staff for Open House and other recruitment events;

·           Supervise local partnerships (e.g. foundations, libraries, etc.).

Skills :

The successful candidate will:

·         Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and integrity, a transparent, team-oriented and collaborative style, and a passion for the mission of PCA;

·         Appreciate the opportunities and challenges of a small institution poised to grow;

·         Possess prior experience working in a multi-cultural and multi-linguistic environment and advocate for intercultural development as a learning outcome to be measured and celebrated;

·         Have experience designing, implementing and evaluating curricula and / or programs;

·         Advocate for integrating classroom learning with real-world experiences;

·         Have successful prior experience working with US accreditors and, preferably, European and/or French regulatory agencies.

Qualifications :

·         Demonstrate excellent written and spoken proficiency in English and working knowledge of French language and culture;

·         Hold a terminal graduate degree (MFA or PhD).

Other :

Search Timeline: Application reviews will start in November 2024, and interviews will start in January 2025 and continue until the position is filled, with an expected start date as early as June 2025.
