Job Responsibilities:

The IES Abroad Nantes Center Director is responsible for strategy, management, and operations at the IES Abroad Nantes Center. The Center Director supervises the Center’s academic programs, serves as a point of contact with the Center’s partner institutions in Nantes, and cultivates a broad range of contacts in Nantes for the benefit of the Center and IES Abroad. The Center Director is the main point of contact for the Center with IES Abroad headquarters in Chicago and works in close collaboration with the Program Dean, to whom the Center Director reports. The Center Director hires and supervises all staff and faculty members for the Nantes Center, and is responsible for the health and safety of the Center’s students. The Center Director also represents IES Abroad and the IES Abroad Nantes Center at IES Abroad meetings, on visits to colleges and universities in the United States, in meetings of professional organizations, and at conferences. The IES Abroad Nantes Center Director collaborates closely with other IES Abroad Center Directors, especially those at the IES Abroad Centers in France.

Administration and Program Management
- In close collaboration with the Program Dean, set measurable program goals each year and evaluate progress towards their achievement
- Maintain strong relations with IES Abroad university partners in Nantes
- Develop and manage the Center’s annual budget and periodic forecasts; approve all Center expenditures; review expenditures on a monthly basis; and meet all financial deadlines.
- Make employment decisions for Center staffing
- In coordination with Customized Programs staff in Chicago, plan and  develop potential
customized programs and administer such programs once onsite
- Organize and participate in annual meetings of the Bureau of the Association of IES Abroad Nantes
- Set regular office hours and be available to consult with students, faculty, and staff
- Conduct annual performance appraisals of IES Abroad Nantes staff members
- Foster an atmosphere of teamwork, mutual support, and enthusiasm among the IES Abroad staff in Nantes
- In consultation with the Program Dean and Chicago Academics staff, create/develop new programs, courses, intercultural opportunities, etc. and revise existing ones as needed.

Academic Management
- In close coordination with the Program Dean:
- Provide ongoing implementation of IES Abroad quality standards as defined by the IES Abroad MAP© series and IES Abroad policies and protocols
- Supervise the development of new IES Abroad courses and the implementation of Curriculum Committee guidelines and recommendations
- Conduct on-going evaluations of the Center’s academic programs in France, and collaborate with the Program Dean to propose and implement suggestions for improvements
- Oversee the hiring, selection, evaluation, and training of IES Abroad faculty
- Oversee the pedagogical internship program; explore the opportunities for business internships
- With program staff, undertake the registration of students in IES Abroad courses, internships, and outside courses at local French and international universities
- Promote the effective use of educational technology in all IES Abroad courses
- Maintain a high level of academic integrity at the Center by overseeing the implementation of  IES Abroad academic policy, reviewing grade appeals, conducting program evaluations, and assisting students with special academic needs or concerns

Communication
- Meet regularly via phone or Skype with the Program Dean to assess and improve Center-related issues
- Strongly enforce the use of French language by students enrolled in the standard IES Abroad Nantes programs
- Provide IES Abroad Chicago with information about the Center and its development on a
regular basis including, but not limited to, financial reports, promotional materials, data about societal and labor trends in France, and cultural information
- Collaborate with other IES Abroad staff in Chicago, fellow IES Abroad Center Directors and other stakeholders on projects such as workshops, training seminars, intercultural projects, and other strategic initiatives defined in collaboration with the Program Dean

Outreach, Public Relations and Marketing
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with local French host universities

Required Skills:

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Administrative experience in either the US or with international programs in another country and knowledge of international education strongly preferred
- Native or near-native fluency in French and English
- Ability to work well with students from US colleges and universities  
- Commitment to international education
- Interest in the academic and intercultural growth of university students
- Excellent administrative, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent team-building skills
- Student-centered philosophy and sensitivity to issues of diversity

Required Qualifications:

- Graduate degree in a relevant academic discipline required; doctoral degree preferred
- 5 to 10 years of progressively responsible managerial experience
- Must be able to lawfully accept employment in France at the time that an offer of employment is extended

Work Conditions (Travel, On-call, etc.):

Travel
- Participate in IES Abroad field trips
- Travel occasionally to attend regional or international meetings
- Conduct recruiting visits to member institutions in the US as requested

On-call duties
- Carry an emergency mobile phone outside of office hours in rotation with other members of staff.  Full training and back up resources will be provided.
